About The Thekla

The Thekla... Built in the 1959 in Germany the boat originally was a timber transporter. In the early '80's she was refurbished and converted in to a theatre/music venue/cabaret house called The Old Profanity Showboat, and moved to Bristol, where she has been moored ever since. Once the owners got tired of running the boat it became an underground nightclub in the '90's at the forefront of Bristol's Drum 'n' Bass scene: playing host to local acts such as Portishead, Massive Attack and Roni Size. Since then it has been restored to it's former glory and is now one of Bristols prime music venues. Expect to find either banging dj's or bands of all sorts almost every night of the week.
LMFM Says:
Having celebrated it's 25th anniversary in 2009 the Thekla has had some huge bands on the bill over it's time, but is still committed to supporting Bristols homegrown talent. It's a big ship, with a big sound down in the hold- steeped in history the Thekla's not your average venue.. but perhaps that's the best thing about it..
