at O2 ABC Glasgow Review

fantastic night
whoooooaaaaaa there! one of the most fun, uplifting and socially conscious gigs ive ever been to last night. jimmy cliff played glasgows abc last night: and what looked like what was goin to be quiet and reverential show at the start really took off into the startosphere. it was almost like a pentecostal church service at times. never have i seen so many arms in the air in sheer celebration of music. there was no support; just an invisible dj playin reggae tracks and despite bein fairly empty in the large hall everyone was mildly skanking (but, thanks to glasgows no smoking laws, not skunking) along. then the man himself came on after a ten minute instrumental from his band and all of a sudden the place felt full. arms and legs filled all gaps as a skanking dance fever took over every body in the hall. the show included many of his classic songs (songs most people know but tend not to know who they are by)........ Hard Road To Travel / Many Rivers To Cross / Sitting In Limbo/ The Harder They Come / Vietnam / Wild World / Wonderful World, Beautiful People they played a full 90mins and wow what an amazin band he had with him. it may have cost 20 quid but really he is someone everyone should try and see while they can. he may be in his 60s but the boy can move and groove. he would put most of todays image conscious and styled frontmen to shame. the sight of him high kicking the closing chord of a song will long remain in my memory. i have seen many concerts including several by lifelong heroes of mine but this was truly one of the most inspirational and uplifting gigs ive ever been too. if you ever get the chance to see jimmy cliff play live anywhere ever, i would give just one piece of advise...... go see. go see. go see!
