The tune draws its name from the Sirens of Greek Mythology. These creatures have been spoken of in many forms - bird-women, aquatic mermaids, muses of the underworld , cannibals - Harrison describes them as "mantic creatures like the Sphinx with whom they have much in common, knowing both the past and the future.
