We find it equal parts bizarre and fascinating that Neil Young has become such an eccentric voice in the world of digital music. As much of a legend that he is, we must say that we could never have predicted the iconic singer / songwriter would be blazing trails in the world of sophisticated (and expensive) digital music playback. Taking on Apple’s iron grip on the digital music market with his ‘Pono’ music player is nothing short of commendable and Young has been busy hitting promoting his new ‘HD digital player’ all over the place of late (with a RRP of $399 he needs to be!)

Neil Young talks vinyl revival and also stars on Fallon
Most recently, Young took to the radio to talk about the benefits of having a Pono (the Hawaiian word for ‘righteousness’ no less) in your pocket. He also waded into the recent ‘vinyl revival’ debate with great aplomb. As expected, he wasn’t particularly enthused.

Speaking on West Coast radio show Frame, Young proclaimed…

"A lot of people that buy vinyl today don’t realise that they’re listening to CD masters on vinyl and that’s because the record companies have figured out that people want vinyl … And they're only making CD masters in digital, so all the new products that come out on vinyl are actually CDs on vinyl, which is really nothing but a fashion statement."

Fashion statements aside, Neil Young also took to The Tonight Show to perform a spotlit rendition of his classic hit ‘Young Man’ alongside Jimmy Fallon himself. Fallon opened, with Young joining in at around the half way point. Watch the video above to catch the vibe, it really is worth a watch and proves that no matter what anyone says about Pono, Neil Young definitely still has 'it' in abundance.
