Gig Guides, Music Concert Tickets at Livemusic.fm

We were thoroughly impressed to learn that up-and-coming pizza joint 'Yard Sale Pizza' had recruited the services of Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin's 'The Pizza Underground' to perform at their grand opening a couple of weeks back. We heard nothing but great things about the show at the Clapton eatery; Culkin and his band of merry-pizza-loving band members sauntered through a tidy selection of songs (kazoo solos included) and in doing so the new pizza joint placed itself firmly on the map.

Now, in case you guys hadn't heard already, 'The Pizza Underground' are an American five piece, fronted by Culkin, who perform parodies of classic tracks from 'The Velvet Underground'. The parody is simple, yet effective; they take the classics and replace key lyrics with references to everyone's favourite slice orientated meal. For example,

"take a BITE of the wild SLICE"

or

"Oh such a PIZZA day"

You get the idea. The 'secret' show at Yard Sale Pizza was supposed to be the start of a run of UK shows for the pizza band, however, it didn't exactly go that way. After a second London show at Concrete (below Pizza East of course), the band travelled up to Nottingham only to face a barrage of drinks thrown at them from the heckling crowd as early as track one of their set. Parody bands fronted by child megastars can usually get away with it, but as everyone knows, Nottingham is a pretty unforgiving place.

The gig was heavily documented as the barrage of booze resulted in Culkin and co. exiting the stage after just three songs. They didn't return. The classic saying, 'THE SHOW MUST GO ON' did not apply in this case. Now, less than a week after the shower of 'beer and boos' the band took to Twitter to reveal they had taken the decision to cancel the rest of their live adventures in Europe this summer. This includes a remaining four UK dates and a pretty stunning slot at Primavera Sound in sunny Barcelona. They explained...

"sad that we had to cancel UK shows. Believe it or not we had fun! But all good things must end, and sometimes suddenly and w/o explanation"

What next for The Pizza Underground? We shall just have to wait and see. At least Yard Sale Pizza got their slice of the action.
