We were walking through Hyde Park just the other day and it is no understatement when we say that it is a wood chip nightmare in certain places. London's signature green space has been reduced to a dark brown mush as a result of Livenation's summer soirees in the park, so it was no surprise when the ticketing behemoth announced that their annual parties in the park were coming to an end as of summer 2012.
Not that we're knocking the parties whatsoever. Some legendary events have been hosted in that park; Kings Of Leon, Blur and Pulp gigs spring to mind, as do the annual Wireless and Hard Rock Calling festivals. There is no disputing the levels of fun laid on in central London by Livenation, it's just, there were always question marks surrounding the longevity of the park as a venue.
Speaking on the deal, London mayor Boris Johnson said...
"Our vision for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has always been as a destination for world class sport as well as major cultural and leisure events." He continued, "The confidence shown by one of the world's leading live entertainment promoters to relocate two of its biggest music festivals from the centre of the capital is a ringing endorsement of out legacy plans."
GREAT NEWS NO?
No headliners have been announced yet, but rest assured, we will keep you up to speed with developments.
