LIVEMUSIC'S TOP TEN GUILTY MUSIC PLEASURES

Not a day goes by that we don't witness something terrible in the world of music. Every single day, without fail something ludicrously terrible pops into our inboxes and peppers our news feeds. We are not ashamed to admit that terribleness often descends upon our iPods as well. To say that this only happens once a day is a lie. The truth is, we often find ourselves fighting off the shit hawks with shields and swords most of the time.

At least the good ALWAYS outweighs the bad, even on the worst days. The trouble is, and this is completely unavoidable, sometimes the bad becomes good. Sometimes we cannot help but fall in love with the worst things that the world of music has to offer. Eiffel 65 are the first name that springs to mind, how good were they?

In homage to all things terrible, here is the Livemusic Guilty Musical Pleasures TOP 10.

ENJOY!!

TOM (Editorial)

Tom loves Bryan Adam's long time and actually met his favourite Canadian a couple of months ago. He was starstruck and went from someone who was threatening to sing his greatest hits to a silent chump. Bryan Adams grilled Tom on Art history and Tom (unsurprisingly) did not have the answers to his questions. What did Tom do? He found somewhere to hide and listened to 'Bryan Adams - Please Forgive Me' on repeat until Bryan had left the building. GUILTY!

JULES (A+R)

Julian has such a lengthy list of guilty pleasures that he simply could not select one as a stand-out selection. The list is a long, drawn out and extensive case study of all things Nu-Metal. Are you ready for this? "Limp Bizkit, Korn, Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down, Static X, Staind, Coal Chamber, Hed P.E..." (The list goes on).

We asked Julian to defend his soiled past and he replied…

"I also had the first Lost Prophet's Album…" GUILTY!

ALEX (Editor)

This guilty pleasure is a fairly confusing one, in fact Alex struggles to fully justify why he loves Robyn so very much. He just does so there. It seems to be closely linked to the anthemic 'Call Your Girlfiend' where Robyn struts about a warehouse in the video, wiggling and gyrating for no particular reason. The confusion surrounding Alex's selection forced us to ask him this question…

"Why do you like Robyn so much?"

He replied…

"I think she writes good songs…" - GUILTY!

RYAN (Editorial)

Ryan is a man of refined tastes. He enjoys the finer things in life; fine wines, fine cheeses, Arsenal FC zipping the ball across the turf. If you are from Cambridge you expect the best, that is just how he was raised. Ryan's guilty pleasure isn't even really a guilty pleasure, he is that classy. Charles & Eddie's 'Would I lie To You?' is generally accepted as one of the finest tracks ever recorded, however, he did confess that he longed to have the same hair style as Eddie back in the day… GUILTY!

LOUIS (Events)

Shaggy is one of the most successful recording artists on the planet. Over a career spanning over twenty years, he has sold somewhere in the region of 17 billion records to idiotic members of the public, Louis being one of them. Now, buying one Shaggy album when you're sixteen is just about acceptable, we can see past that, but Louis owns three! 'Midnight Lover', 'Hot Shot' and 'Boombastic' to be exact.

We asked Louis why he loved Shaggy so much and he said...

"Because he is Boombastic". GUILTY!

ALICE (Office Manager)

When we asked Alice for her guilty pleasure she replied "Elton John" sheepishly. Now while many would argue that loving a bit of Elton is nothing to be ashamed of, Alice takes her love for Elton to unhealthy levels. She knows all the words, spins all of his albums on the original vinyl (it must be original) -and- defends him to high heaven when people call him 'an annoying weirdo diva' down the pub. Guilty? GUILTY!

RICK (Creative)

Rick is without question the hardest nut in the Livemusic offices. He shoots bows and arrows on horseback at the same time as fashioning knives from priceless Whale ribs that he finds on the banks of the Thames. What guilty pleasure could you possibly attach to someone of such barbaric brilliance? Keane, that's what.

"Everybody's changing and I don't feeeel the saaaymmmme" GUILTY!

ARASH (A+R)

Arash is a man of many tastes. He loves the feeling of the wind in his hair as he rides waves on his surfboard, he also loves the sight of Tesco bags as they drift around in the street on windy days. "That is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen" is what he says when he sees those bags. None of the aforementioned instances are guilty pleasures, they are completely swell, but listening to John Mayer is just about as guilty as it gets. A lot of people will be like "But who is John Mayer?' - You lucky, lucky people. GUILTY!

JOHN (A+R Director)

John backs Extreme's seminal love song 'More Than Words' as the finest love song ever penned in the history of songwriting, pens and love (the word 'Pens' in between the words 'Songwriting' and 'Love' looks well dodgy doesn't it?) Anyway, John has confessed to playing 'More Than Words' on repeat and crying for hours when QPR were last relegated. He knows all the words and harmonies. GUILTY!

PAUL (Tech)

It took Paul the longest to reply to our guilty pleasure email. Maybe he was too busy? That is one possible conclusion. The other is that he has so many guilty pleasures that he was busy whittling them down to answer our email. We think it might have been the latter.

What is the best way of getting information from someone who does not want to give it to you? Torture? Yes and no. Only if constant prodding and poking doesn't work. Eventually Paul revealed that he is currently really enjoying Little Mix's cover of the En Vogue classic 'Don't Let Go (Love)'. GUILTY!

Members of the jury Have you reached a verdict? Yes your honour we have. What is your verdict?

GUILTY AS CHARGED!!
