LIVEMUSIC INTERVIEW: BELAKISS ANNOUNCED AS KASABIAN TOUR SUPPORT

Livemusic caught up with Belakiss on Saturday – Jan 4 - following a showcase performance at London’s Garage.

It was announced at the gig that the band are confirmed as Kasabian’s support for the upcoming European tour. We shot a few questions at the rockers ahead of their departure, have a read below.

The band cite members of The Beatles, The Shadows and Oasis as family, leaving Belakiss well versed in the divine arts of music. Pitch perfect vocals, mellifluous harmonies, guitars whaling like pistons broken free from crankshafts, attitude, talent and tight leather trousers combine to give Belakiss an undeniable fortitude.

The band will be worthy adversaries on Kasabian’s tour and we hope to bring you updates from the ground! Tour dates listed below.

Belakiss are...
Ruari Meehan – guitar/vocals
Ben Sherdrick – guitar/vocals
Tatia Starkey – bass/vocals
Alfie Milner - Percussion

Livemusic: So it has been announced this evening that you are set to support Kasabian on tour, are you stoked?

Ruari: Very stoked man, Yeah…

Alfie: Stoked about what?

Ruari: Stoke-on-Trent

Alfie: Oh fucking na man!

Ruari: Yeah we’re really fired up, it’s amazing! We went to Japan with them in January and it went really well. We’re just moving up a step and now we’re doing the European dates. Japan was just a short four-date tour but this one is eleven or twelve. It’s gonna be a real journey, we’ve never been on a tour bus together as a band so it’s going to be a test of our…

Tatia: Friendship…ha ha ha….

Livemusic: We hear you have quite a swanky tour bus with your own flip down TV screens – is this gonna help you…

Alfie: (interrupts) Masterbate? Yes.

Ben: The only problem with it is that whatever is getting played in the living area gets played in all the bunks. It’s a Nazi regime man…

Tatia: That’s an exclusive!

Livemusic: Malcom Gladwell stated in his book ‘Outliers’ that it takes 10,000 hours of practice in anything to become expert. The Beatles apparently became experts after playing 8 hours a day in Germany. Do you think this tour will help you?

Ruari: When we were in Japan we played a show every single night, it was something we hadn’t done before. I think we were getting in a kind of flow weren’t we?

Alfie: Everything we’ve done before we’ve had to Kunckle down and do it in a short period of time. With this tour we can only get better, I think we are gonna learn a lot from each other’s mistakes. We just have to crack on and do it.

Ruari: After two gigs with Kasabian we learnt more than we had in two years. We learnt a lot and this tour is just gonna make us a bigger and better band, and better musicians – the whole works!

Livemusic: Assuming you do love music, why is that?

Tatia: Why do you love music?

Livemusic: long pause……

Belakiss: Ha ha haaaaaaa…

Tatia: We probably love music for the same reasons you do. That’s why you’re here – why are we all here?

(The existential quandary caused Livemusic’s brain to short cut temporarily).

Livemusic: And what can we look forward to from the band?

Ben: We’re going to release a single first followed by an album this year.

Ruari: We’ve been writing a lot since we got back from Japan and the new tunes are more mature and fucking amazing basically.

Livemusic: And if you had one thing to say to the public what would it be?

Alfie: Cheesy Wotsits!

Ben: Buy the fucking single!

Go check this band out - they're special!
