The Gallows front man Frank Carter has revealed that he quit the band by email following a lengthy period of soul searching.
In an interview with Kerrang! Magazine the Watford punk-rocker said: “I didn't want to email them, but I had to. I haven't been happy for a long time and the difficulties we've had pulling new music together was the realisation that wasn't the right time for Gallows, not with me singing anyway.”
“They took it badly, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I've had the greatest times of my life during the last six years, but I decided to quit, because I wanted to do the right thing for the band. I wish them all the luck in the world.”
The revelations follow a fine tradition of rock royalty announcing their departure by uncouth methods, the most hilarious of which must be Phil Collins’ notorious ‘divorce by fax’ debacle.
In 1996 the Genesis singer ended a 12 year marriage with Jill Tavelman by sending her an unceremonious fax spelling out his intentions and demands for access of their Daughter, Lilly Collins.
The move was widely lauded as the most eighties thing that anyone could do and set a precedence of sorts that Carter appears to be following to a T, albeit in an a more modern fashion.
The Gallows last gig with Carter on vocal duties will take place at the London ULU on July 23rd.
