Drake continues to push all the boundaries…

We heard the other day that Drake wanted to be the new Marvin Gaye. Now while we never remember Marvin ever 'spitting a bar' there is some strange logic in Drake's desires. At his height Marvin Gaye was the biggest Motown artist ever, he was instrumental in making soul music what it is today. He bought levels of sophistication to the aforementioned genres previously unseen and given Drake's latest album effort 'Nothing Was The Same', this is exactly what Drake is trying to do in the hip hop/R'n'B/soul/pop crossover realms in which he is currently operating.

It would be easy for him to churn out the same old same old for his adoring fans, we really wouldn't mind, but this simply isn't in the Canadian lyricists make up.

Drake continues to push all the boundaries…
Take Drizzy's latest video offering for wildly addictive lead single 'Hold On, We're Going Home'. Picture the scene, Miami 1985, Drizzy and his entourage (including A$AP Rocky) celebrating some sort of financial coup until, whoa, Drake's girlfriend gets kidnapped by some evil gold toothed fellow. We won't spoiler the whole video, but what we will say is that this is no longer work of the music video variety.

Just check this out for a Hollywood-esque one-liner...

Drake continues to push all the boundaries…
"Make it hard to spot the general by working like a soldier…"

Seven minutes later and we are of no doubt that Drake is currently the number one rap star on the planet. As Kanye has a meltdown with Zane Lowe and Jay Z continues to flog his tepid 'Magna Carter' release, Drake seamlessly mixes a love song with unrelenting machine gun shootouts with consummate ease.

Sure it's cheesy, but we love it. Click here to watch it unfold…
