ALBUM REVIEW: MUNGO'S HI-FI 'FORWARD EVER'

It’s not often you hear bad words uttered about Mungo’s Hi Fi and after listening to their latest album ‘Forward Ever’ it’s easy to understand why. If you want to dance around manically, or just relax and smile excessively, then this is the record for you. Mungo’s HI-FI are responsible for "reinvigorating the sound system culture" and in true unique and pioneering-style, ‘Forward Ever’ stays true to this claim. The new album has been compiled according to the reaction of their loyal fans when Mungo played the carefully selected songs live. The result? A collection of songs which work flawlessly together. This album has the power to remind all who attended the summer festivals of just what they felt in those magical, musical, Mungo moments.

With the tracklist working harmoniously throughout, but with every song creating waves in its own right, 'Forward Ever' is jam packed with reggae-inspired, dub-infused, dancehall sounds. Stand-out tracks include Bad Bad Boy featuring Soom T and The Highgrade, which features the legendary Gentleman’s Dub Club, a band that we should all have at the forefront of our CD racks. Easy listening and undiluted vibes allow the album to glide seamlessly from sog to song. Tracks such as Scream and Skidip, promote the relaxed reggae vibes Mungo are so well known for, yet at the same time, the vibrant and energetic ska tones of Sound Boy Police will get you skanking round your bedroom and craving more, more, more.

“Right now the jury’s out” and the verdict is that Mungo’s Hi Fi have delivered, yet again, an amazing album.

Released on the 21st November 2011 and on Mungo’s very own Scotch Bonnet Records, this record is a sure fire hit which simply cannot be ignored.
