HOLY'S The Wrong Side is a track of fury, noise and overwhelming volume; but if you take the time to delve deeper into the beliefs of the band and the message of their music, their talent for expression becomes apparent.
The Italian band have not long been making their eclectic hardcore-punk music and have now got to the point of releasing their debut, self-titled EP on Italian label Hell, Yes! Their talent being acknowledged by big names such as Ryan Adams, Holy appear to be gripping the hardcore music scene, and there is certainly a lot of excitement surrounding the release of this record, with their release date being pushed back until the 20th of February.
A band that is out to promote escapism and complain about the harsh reality of life, HOLY'S music echoes this belief in both sound and atmosphere. Having only formed last year, this band have a lot to develop and it is possible to suggest that their sound could be tweaked into the realms of something slightly more original.
To those die-hard hardcore fans, this band will be exciting and another record to add to the angst-ridden annals. For those of us less rehearsed in the ways of this genre, I wouldn’t recommend beginning with HOLY; it makes for a somewhat strenuous listen, without knowing their background; although in context, the band are expressing important messages and can be applauded for their strong opinions on politics and life issues.
