Biffy Clyro may have released a handful of 'live' and 'B-sides' records in the last couple of years, but it has been a long time coming that any new material has been released by the band. Having exploded onto the scene back in 2009 with breakthrough album 'Only Revolutions', four quiet years have passed by but new album 'Opposites' acts as a potent reminder of what the world of music has been missing from the Scottish trio.

Album Review - Biffy Clyro 'Opposites'
Now, correct us if we're wrong, but, there seem to be two types of Biffy Clyro fans. On one hand you've got the dedicated super fans; mostly teenagers, full of angst with a love for that spicy mix of nu-metal thrash and pop sensibilities. The other type of fan would list Biffy Clyro in the 'guilty pleasures' section of their CD collection. We fall into the latter of the two categories and for the record have always had a soft spot for the band, ever since the seminal 'Many Of Horror' hit the airwaves.

To cut a long story short, 'Opposites' is a fantastic reintroduction to the world of Biffy Clyro. The record is a near perfect 50/50 mix of shredding metal and pop ballad work of the highest order. The record dips in and out of the two diametrically opposed sounds like clockwork and as a result the record (even though it shouldn't be) is a splendid listen. There are so many ways in which this musical coupling should go wrong, but Biffy Clyro seem to have perfected the formula on this album. If 2009's 'Only Revolutions' was a solid stab, 'Opposites' is the finished article.

Album Review - Biffy Clyro 'Opposites'
Stand out tracks (as always) are the singles that have been lifted from the double disc album. 'Black Chandeliers' is a personal favourite, but the tone of the record is so consistent throughout that the album really works as a body of work, rather than a list of songs with a few stand outs.

We highly recommend you give 'Opposites' a spin. We shall keep you posted on the impending tour news that is almost certainly going to be announced by Biffy Clyro soon.
